Day trip on the SS Moyie, 1955

In 1955, the SS Moyie ran from Procter north to Kaslo and Lardeau on Saturdays. This film was shot on one of the passenger runs during the summer months, as the SS Moyie made her way up and down the lake.

The film also shows the motor vehicle ferries, (the MV Anscomb and the MV Balfour) as they crossed Kootenay Lake traveling between Balfour and Kootenay Bay. This was the Trans Canada highway at the time and a busy route. The MV Anscomb retired in 2000 when the MV Osprey 2000 was launched. The MV Balfour still runs during the busy summer months.

Watch the SS Moyie stop at some of the landings along the lake. See the loading of fruit at Johnson's Landing and the crowd meeting the boat at Argenta. These were activities that happened for decades along the lake, though rarely photographed or filmed.

This film was shot by Frank Bonacci of Procter, who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway.
