Mural Residency Call for Artists Submission Deadline
September 1 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Touchstones Nelson: Museum of Art and History is hosting the second instalment of a mural residency program which kicks off this August. New Echoes in the Staircase invites a local (Nelson and Area) artist into one of the building’s heritage staircases that was once used daily in earlier days, but is now a liminal space no longer seen by the public.
The purpose of the project is to invoke conversations about access, behind-the-scenes work, the potential history and power contained in a building, (mis)representation and voice in historical buildings/organizations, and many other important topics. The artist-in-residence will have access to a section of wall along the staircase to add to this critical conversation.
The project will include an artist studio tour and discussion (made available to the public via video), a workshop component, and a site-specific mural in the staircase. It will also support the work of local artists through an artist-in-residency program – connecting professional artists with the community at large in a unique environment.
Touchstones Nelson Museum will be following the Work Safe BC guidelines for safe working environments as well as Interior Health COVID-19 health and safety protocols for the artist, staff, and volunteers.
To apply, please send a proposal, 5-10 portfolio images, and artist statement or a curator statement, biography and current CV to email@example.com. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 1, 2020, with work commencing on September 8. Full submission guidelines can be found here.
