Volunteering at Touchstones Nelson
So much of our success at Touchstones is dependent on our volunteers. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of active volunteers of all ages who share their interests, expertise and time with us. Volunteering is a great way to gain experience in a not-for-profit art gallery, museum and archives setting, while also giving back to your community in a meaningful way.
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS DO
All Touchstones Nelson volunteers are trained and supervised by staff, with many opportunities to learn and contribute to aspects of the organization. Check out the various volunteer positions:
Archives assistant: Help out with special projects in the Shaun Lamb Archives
Reception desk and gift shop assistant: Work at our reception desk processing gift shop sales, admissions and providing information to visitors.
Docent (Volunteer guide): Like history? We provide training to give tours of the museum and gallery exhibitions to adult and school groups.
Events assistant: Help out with events like opening receptions and fundraisers, either behind the scenes prepping refreshments, or front of house welcoming guests or handling sales at the reception desk.
Handy people: If you are handy with a measuring tape and hammer, you could help take down and install exhibitions or help us look after our beautiful heritage building.
Board and/or Committees: A connection to the community and love of history or art could make you the perfect fit for our collections or development committees.
Some volunteer jobs require a weekly commitment. Some volunteer jobs come up once a month or two. We spend the time to get to know all of our volunteer candidates and make every effort to find the volunteer job that suits you best.
HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Touchstones Nelson holds a new volunteer orientation once or twice a year. The time of this orientation fluctuates depending on our needs. If you would like to join us for our next orientation please fill out an application form and return to the reception desk, or email it to email@example.com.
We also bring on volunteers throughout the year as needed. If possible, please attach a resume or letter of interest to your application form describing your skills and interests and drop this off at our admissions desk. Be assured that if we find an opportunity that suits you, we will do our best to add your name to our list of amazing volunteers.
For more information please get in touch with our Programming and Volunteer Coordinator, Stephenie Campbell at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Touchstones Nelson!
