Explore the surrounding district
Nelson is embedded in the Selkirk Mountains, touches Kootenay Lake, and is within sight of the mountains of Kokanee Glacier Park; there is much to savour. Various Web resources aid this endeavor.
• The International Selkirk Loop presents a road trip through the Selkirk Mountains in British Columbia, Washington, and Idaho. The route passes through Nelson and along the West and South Arms of Kootenay Lake.
• The Trans-Canada Trail presents a hiking trail through the Kootenays. It roughly follows the historic Dewdney Trail as it passes through the Selkirks south of Nelson.
